How I built this webpage and what I used to get it done.
Best viewed with your Mozilla Firefox browser.
1. I went to Doteasy.com and bought their basic hosting package. It consists of a domain name (The domain is .com and the name is newpressroom) and some webspace that costs me about $25 a year.
2. I bought a better camera than the Sony Mavica I had been using. I now use a Kodak Easyshare DX7630 with 6.1 MP's. It has a dock that you set the camera in for easy uploads to your computer via a USB cable, automatically. (I bought it at Sam's Club for less than the listed price. I also got the SD Memory card at Sam's. They have great prices.) Windows XP has a built in digital camera utility to facilitate the transfer.
3. I adjusted the mega pixel ratio down to 1.7 on my camera and took lots of pics. Came home and uploaded the pics to my computer via the Easyshare dock into a folder in My Pictures in Windows XP OS. I opened the folder and using the view option on the toolbar, I changed the view to "Filmstrip" and went thru the pics and deleted the ones I didn't like. I then created a file numbering system that would tell me what the pics were about without having to look at them and proceeded to collate and number them according to their subject. This system comes in very handy when you are making your webpage.
4. After I did all that I still needed to re-size the pics because they were still too big. For re-sizing pics I used a free editing utility called Picasa from Google to get that done. I gathered all the pics I was going to use and put them in one folder and using Picasa I was able to export the pics to another folder and Picasa re-sized all of them at the same time it exported them. There is an adjustment in Picasa that let's you pick the re-size number.
5. This is where I made a mistake and it's because I had never made thumbnails and didn't know how the process worked. After getting my new pics re-sized into a new folder, I uploaded the whole folder to the web server that holds my space. Having all of the pics in one folder saves you the pain in your ass that you would get by uploading the pics one at a time. To upload the pics to my space I used a free utility called Filezilla that I got from Download.com
6. To build the webpages I used MS Frontpage 2000. It's all I have and I got a real good deal on it. It's also fairly simple to use for a dumbass like me and it has a decent help section to help you figure out how the damn thing works. When you want to re-size pics you first have to add a pic to your blank page in Frontpage. You then click on the pic first and then hit the thumbnail button on the toolbar. It will re-size your pic automatically to the size you set it at. The mistake I had made previously on #5 was that I uploaded my original pics before I started building my webpage. When I re-sized the pic to thumbnail, Frontpage automatically saved both size versions for upload. I had to un-save the large pic, because I had already uploaded the original large sized pics. If I had known that FP saved both versions I could of saved myself a lot of time and effort.
Tips
1. There are all sorts of free software on the internet. Don't pay for anything unless you have no choice.
2. Get rid of MS Internet Explorer and go download Mozilla Firefox to use as a browser. It's free. MSIE is a hacker magnet and is full of bugs.
3. Pay no attention to me, figure it out for yourself.
4. Buy a Sam's Club card. You will save money the first time you shop there. I bought a 512MB SD memory card there for $49. At Best Buy, the exact same card with the exact same memory, made by the exact same company, in the exact same packaging, cost $80. WTF, can you believe that? Wow!
